The Report: This Sofa is Tougher Than You
Finding great vintage pieces for your home can often mean walking a thin line between the tasteful and kitsch. In so many instances, treasures from a past world can end up being more of nuisance than anything else. In the case of Stephen Kenn, however, the opposite could not be truer. For the Canadian-born, Los Angeles-based furniture designer, great form is the ultimate way to pay tribute to the past. Take, for example, pieces from his Inheritance collection.
With no detail overlooked, the collection marries history with present day by utilizing repurposed WWII military fabric (complete with hand-stitched repairs), resulting in truly one-of-a-kind pieces. But the pièce de résistance? The custom leather and webbing belts supporting the steel-welded frame that also happen to be exact replicas of WWII-era Swiss mule belts. It’s as much a beautiful sofa as it is a conversation piece.
