Take a trip to the tropics with Oretta’s L’Estate Negroni

While the history of the Negroni isn’t completely clear, it’s said to be inspired by the classic Americano, which has been revered as one of the best aperitif’s ever made.

Legend tells in 1919, Count Camillo Negroni asked the bartender at Caffe Casoni in Florence, Italy, to strengthen his favourite cocktail —the Americano — by replacing the soda water with gin. It’s speculated that after the first sip, the Pope appeared on a biscotti, the heavens sang down and thus the Negroni was born

Say goodbye to the cool, winter months, and take a momentary vacation with Oretta’s take on the Negroni. It’s adventurous use of Malibu rum will transport you from classic Italy to tropical islands.

The balance of the bitter Campari and gin against the sweet coconut flavours of Malibu and the aromatic spices in Cocchi, finished with the fresh bubbly sensation of Aranciata is a refreshing flavour bomb. Perfect for a cool aperitif before any meal.

The King West Italian hotspot has killer eats to match, if you aren’t in the mood to make the cocktail you can always pop into Oretta to enjoy one of their tasty negronis.

 Ingredients:

  • 0.75 oz Campari
  • 1.25 oz Malibu Rum
  • 1 oz Tanqueray
  • 1 oz Cocchi
  • 1.25 oz freshly squeezed aranciata

 Directions:

Pour contents into a shaker tin and mix well. Strain the drink into a glass over ice cubes. Garnish with an orange slice or peel and serve.
